Group 4 had the honour of kicking off the first day of IC11 (along with Group 1 on the main oval) at Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney oval two (BISS2). Warm weather (which didn't last all day) greeted the players which would've been to Timor-Leste's (East Timor's) liking, but the heat was soon on them in their debut as Great Britain quickly showed them the ropes.

Game Day 7 - Historic first win for India v Timor Leste

Posted by Jim JJ on January 8, 2012 at 10:45 PM Comments comments (0)

In the first match of AFL IC11 Game Day 7 the two winless teams looked to open their International Cup winning account. The Western Oval in Royal Park, Parkville, Melbourne was not looking the best surface after extensive drainage works were done here some weeks ago. But the weather was fine and warming up to burn off the dew and both sides were keen.

Of course ther...

Game Day 8 - China finish with a win over Crocs

Posted by Jim JJ on January 8, 2012 at 10:25 PM Comments comments (0)

It was the playoff for the wooden spoon – or more likely to avoid the wooden spoon. The game was a good one that matched two teams that clearly were of similar abilities. Today the winner would be China by seven points. But the winless Timor Leste are winners just for being here, remembering there are a number of other countries that could not muster the resources to make it to this year’s competition, and the tiny Australian neighbour only not long ago achieved sovereignty fro...

The France Coqs have broken through for their first-ever 18-a-side international victory, defeating the East Timor Crocs by 109 points in the cold and wet at Blacktown International Sportspark today.

In a game which failed to reach great heights, the Coqs' relentless grind and better ability in the wet saw them grow a lead throughout the game, winning every quarter wit...

Looking back - a review of IC11 with Tony Woods

Posted by Jim JJ on January 8, 2012 at 10:25 PM Comments comments (1)

As the 4th AFL International Cup slips away to now being several months ago we thought it time to chat to the AFL International Development Manager Tony Woods about how he thought the tournament played out, ranging from questions on media, the women's division and staging it across two cities, to his own personal highlights of the experience.

WFN: Overall I assume you were pretty happy with IC11. A record 18 men's teams including 4 new ones (Tonga, Fiji and France and Tim...

Game Day 5 - Fiji vs Timor Leste, Div 2 champs on display?

Posted by Jim JJ on January 8, 2012 at 10:20 PM Comments comments (1)

Today’s game between Fiji and Timor Leste was a Division 2 mismatch. The highly favoured Fiji were very close to making Division 1 last weekend, and showed their abilities tonight against the undermanned Timor Leste team winning by a massive 135 points at BISS Oval 2.

Although there was some moisture around from recent heavy rains conditions were much more favourable than the last round and allowed Fiji to shine. The Tribe set the scene with a goal in the first min...

IC11 Preview - Can Timor-Leste's Crocs show some Bite on Debut?

One of a number of debutants at this year's IC will be the Timor-Leste Crocs, representing one of Australia's closest neighbours and Asia's youngest independent nation.

The Crocs were founded only three years ago, but have since formed the AFL Timor-Leste and become a regular appearance in the Asian tournament circuit, as well as maintaining a domes...

Australian football first came to Timor-Leste in 2007 when several friends who liked to kick the ball around jokingly put together the East Dili Eels.

The Crikey Cup (Bali Geckos V Timor Crocs)

Is on again as a curtainraiser before the Western Bulldogs V Cold Coast Suns, AFL game at TIO, Marrara in Darwin on May 19th. It is on again. We travel Back to Darwin to get our first ever win against the Bali Geckos and take the cup back to where it belongs.

The idea for the Crikey Cup came from Steve Irwin’s connection with East Timor and its sacred symbol, the crocodile or ‘grandfather’. In 2000 Steve Irwin led a team from Australia Zoo, with the Australian Defence Force and the World Society for the Protection of Animals, to rescue two injured crocodiles from a cramped and destroyed cage in Dili, the capital.

Determined to respect the crocodile’s symbolic status in East Timor, Steve refused to evacuate the reptiles to secure facilities in Australia. Instead, Australia Zoo funded and built two state-of-the-art enclosures outside of Dili. At the time, Steve described the rescue as one of the hardest but most rewarding of his life. Whilst in Dili the Irwins also donated funds for medical treatment of the people caught up in the violence of that time.

Go Crocs....!!!! Get up there so we can take on Gunner and his Geckos.

 Go Crocs.....!!!!!!!

See you all there.....!!!!!!!
